Whaling & cetaceans

The largest animal on earth (the blue whale) survives today in the southern ocean. The blue whale, along with fin, sei, humpback, southern right, minke and sperm whales, the killer whale and other dolphins feed on the plentifull krill during the summer and have been recorded by Hedgehog House photographers. Their abundance attracted whalers to the southern ocean, and their killing peaked in the first half of the twentieth century, decimating many species. Whaling continues today under the guise of research, but is controversial.
