The fur seal, once ruthlessly hunted by man, the leopard seal, a ruthless hunter in its own right, the ungainly elephant seal, the sleepy Weddell seal, the crabeater seal in the pack ice, and the rare Ross seal, all live in the Southern Ocean. Sea lions, including the endangered New Zealand (Hooker) sea lion, occupy subantarctic island beaches. Hedgehog House photographers have spent time observing and photographing many species.
