Hedgehog House photographers have seen the Ross Sea in many moods. First explored by James Clark Ross who discovered the Ross Ice Shelf, later explorers quickly identified Ross Island as a suitable base location. Today United States, New Zealand, Italy and Germany have bases on the Ross Sea shores while tourists make a long voyage to visit Borchgrevink, Scott and Shackletons's huts, and to view the Adelie and Emperor penguin colonies.
