Fiji consists of 322 islands (of which 106 are inhabited) and many smaller islets. The islands are mountainous, with peaks up to 1,300 metres (4,250 ft), and covered with thick forests, reflecting the warm tropical climate. Coral reefs teeming with colourful fish fringe many islands, providing divers and snorkellers with many rewards for exploring under the sea.
