Southland & Fiordland

Fiordland, jutting westwards into the 'Roaring forties' is one of NZ's wettest regions, The glacier-carved landscape culminates in spectacular Milford Sound and Mitre Peak, approached through dense forest up the Hollyford Valley from Lake Te Anau. The southern coast, is gentler, with green rolling hills dotted with sheep and cattle. Tuatara can be viewed in Invercargill Museum, and atthe port of Bluff is a signpost marking the end of State Highway 1.
