New Guinea - Carstensz Pyramid - Colin Monteath

Colin Monteath took part in a fascinating photographic & guiding assignment to the summit of Carstensz Pyramid, the highest peak in New Guinea. Carstensz is located near the southern coast of Irian Jaya, territory claimed and occupied by Indonesia since 1962. Dani porters were used to haul loads through the jungle and on up into the colder highlands that are studded with limestone outcrops. With the onset of climate change, snow and ice are rapidly disappearing from these wonderful equatorial peaks.
